I have a teacup Persian named Precious & morkie named Ramzy. Ramzy has lots of special needs due to liver shunt. I brought him here when I first got him and being in my early twenties I was not financially ready for an $8k surgery that may/may not fix my dogs health problem. Doctor Michaels ran a few tests for me and was able to confirm that my dog most likely had liver shunt, but I would need to ho to a specialist for an ultrasound or CT scan to verify the results. My dog is not a candidate for surgery because he is 3.8 lbs, I'm am so glad to have found a vet that will work with me on his illness. They even board him if he gets sick for just a day or as many as I need to keep him stabilized, they have been very price worthy and Dr. Michael's really truly cares about their health. I even saw him in Costco once and he asked how he was doing . The staff is so friendly and they love my animals, they always get so excited when I bring them in!!! They even have a yearly calendar that you can submit your pet photo to be in. Love Love Love this place. Read Less

The doctors here are great and friendly. But every time I come in and go to the front desk, I think her name is Samantha, but she always has an attitude problem. Her customer service sucks. Today I had to buy trifexis for my dog and I came in 10 minutes before closing. She told me that they were about to close and that I might not be able to go in. I brushed it off. Once I went in, I was second person in line and instead of checking in with me she took the lady behind me without saying anything. The other front desk lady was super nice with helping me out. I only had cash on me and when she asked Samantha (the girl with a beanie and a nose ring) if I could pay cash she just said no without trying to help out. It was just really bad customer service on her part and I'm sure that I'm not the only person who has dealt with this here. Read Less

We have been bringing our cats here for years.Dr. Anthony Michael is knowledgeable, friendly and professional.Recently Dr. Megan Gibbings has joined the staff. She very informative and she has more feline knowledge in my opinion and it is a pleasure when we get to have her see our cats, as the RCAH seems a bit more friendly to dogs than cats. (Just my opinion, of course).The only real problem is the front desk / admin side of things.I understand they are busy, but if you call them you will usually be on hold for quite a while and then you might be disconnected.We recently had a billing problem (a double charge, so check your invoices!) and it took a week of calls to try and get the issue cleared up.When we came back for a follow up visit, "Samantha" was working in the reception area and when we asked her if the refund had been made she said "I can't help you with that " and turned and walked away like a petulant teenager.Normally I try to assume people are just having a bad day or something when this kind if thing happens, but she seems to have this attitude every time I have had to deal with her.Bottom line:Vets and techs are great.Front office needs more organization and in some cases a serious attitude adjustment. We were referred to Rose Canyon by a very good friend of ours and we've been coming to Dr. Michael a little over 3 years now with two small dogs. I never thought to read reviews on yelp until this morning after I dropped one of our pups off for surgery. We love this vet and only by going to another more local vet could you really appreciate Rose Canyon. I've never experienced any issues with clerical errors or wrong shots given. We took one of our pups in for what we thought was food allergies and instead of recommending some expensive food or tests, Dr Michael did a usual exam and turns out our fur baby had fleas. Gross. We put her on a long term flea medication and BOOM within a couple days no more scratching and chewing her paws. I feel like this was a situation that could have been easily taken advantage of, but Dr. Michael cares about your pets and the money is secondary. It's like going to a trusted mechanic who won't charge you for things that aren't necessary.I can honestly say that this office has done an exceptional job and is very friendly. I know our pups are in great hands with Rose Canyon and I wouldn't hesitate to refer any of our friends and family to go there. I drive from Santee to come to Rose Canyon if that makes any difference. Traffic sucks but it's worth it to us. Read Less

We took Tate in for his third set of puppy shot after being charged over $400 at VCA for his first puppy visit and $90 at Petco during one of their clinics for a second shot. We have heard nothing but great things about Dr. Michael so we gave it a shot. I do not have one complaint about his visit. Dr. Michael is so down to earth and genuine. He checked his ears, heartbeat, and knew exactly how old he was just by looking at his teeth. We were concerned as Tate only has one ball that has dropped. Dr. Michael felt around his lower belly area and said if it doesn't drop after nine to ten months it probably won't. He also said with confidence when it come to neutering him, he is almost sure he could find the missing solider. He set down some treats on the exam table as he administered Tates shots without hardly any cries or squeals. When we checked out, his shots were only $44 dollars! We will be back to see Dr. Michael for all of Tates medical needs. Thank you Dr. Michael for being so sweet and honest. Read Less

Great vet, but inadequate and poor communication by receptionists has led to a huge headache situation.Brought my dog in because she has been itching and I also needed her fecal sample tested so that she could be boarded. I specifically called hours before her appointment and asked if they could test her sample for boarding, and the receptionist said yes. My girlfriend brought my dog in, handed them the bag full of feces, and said that it was for the testing that I had called about earlier. The vet she met with was friendly and great.Two days later, when my dog needs to be boarded, I call the vet and ask about the test results - they indicate that they did not run any test results because they did not know what the feces was for. Ummm... hello. A client calls hours before the appointment, hands you a bag full of poop, and specifically says this is for the testing that was called about, and you don't know what to do with the bag of poop? The receptionist then blamed the "miscommunication" on my girlfriend. Incredibly frustrating experience, and now I have to rush to figure out how to get this test done. Read Less

Love Dr. Michael and all the staff at Rose Canyon.I've been taking my many cats & dogs there since 2009 even though I have since moved to the College area.The front desk and tech staff has always treated me and my animals professionally and with kindness. Several times, my pets have been squeezed in same day to accommodate emergencies.Dr. Michael has made himself available via email where we've conducted long convos re: a particular pet's needs. He's followed some of my pets' ongoing health issues with concern and care for years now. Dr. Michael has kindly worked with me and all my rescue animals, often giving me price breaks and comp-ing me certain services due to my high number of rescue cats and dogs and fosters.I have nothing but confidence and respect for everyone who works there, and really don't know what I'd do without them. like most of my personal health care picks, my vet was a random 'close my eyes and point' choice (oh the pre-yelp days) which landed me at rose canyon. ive been very very lucky with this method.rose canyon has been a fabulous pet health care establishment for our two cats. they have gone here for basic check-ups to minor surgeries and ive always felt they were in very good hands. friendly, knowledgeable staff who never try to get you to do a bunch of unnecessary shots or other things. When the animal needs to go under for a procedure they give you a form with 'extra' things that can be done while they are having 'a co*cktail,' like clipping nails, teeth cleaning or something else thats hard to do while awake. Very discreet and no pressure.The location is slightly odd on the bend of a hill, which could easily be missed...so drive slow if you aren't familiar. Always plenty of parking and very clean inside.one little bonus is they do a pet calendar contest every year which is cute. one of our cats was a runner up the first time we entered! Read Less

We have been coming to Rose Canyon Animal Hospital for over 10 years. While we initially chose it for the location (less than 2 miles from our home), we have become loyal fans. Dr. Michael is very caring and sits on the floor with our big dogs rather than having to put them up on the examination table, which definitely lowers their stress levels. Plus, prices are very reasonable. That is why we continue to come here even though we have moved to North Park and have a number of vets much closer.Read Less
