Got a phone call from my banker yesterday asking me to consult with his friend on a legal issue. I can’t take the case because it’s not my practice area but I can connect him with someone who can. After our call the potential client was so relieved to have an attorney who listened to him and gave him peace of mind on his case. I’ve spent all afternoon talking to fellow attorneys in the area who can help him. You never know where your network will lead you, foster every relationship and don’t be afraid to reach out to old friends that you know are in a certain field, you could make someone’s day!

I really enjoy sharing my wellness practices on here and how they’ve improved my business but one thing I’ve always been hesitant to talk about is productivity. I’ve shared how being more intentional and wellness focused has helped my overall goals in life and how I approach business and client relationships but the tangible routines have always been a little elusive for me. Recently I’ve been a lot kinder to myself on the days I’m not so productive and I took note of the tools and times when I was more so, in order to rework my schedule and help me be a better service provider and friend too. I struggle with not being a morning person in an industry that glamorizes being on early in the morning but what has been working for me lately is checking my emails/texts/DMs first thing, responding to urgents, adding tasks to my to do list for the day and then closing my laptop and phone for my morning routine. Taking an 1.5-2 hours for myself then to enjoy my coffee, eat breakfast, move my body and just relax whether it’s with a book or playing with my dogs before getting ready for the day and logging in for a productive few hours of work has been a game changer for me. Leaning into my natural tendencies instead of forcing myself to do what others do and then punishing myself for not being able to has been so much better for my mental health and overall work product too. What’s something you’ve adapted lately in your life that has helped it flow better?#mentalhealth #productivity #lawyerwellness #wellness

It's Bar Exam week🤓 take a moment to send all the good vibes and prayers to anyone you know sitting for a bar exam tomorrow and Wednesday. If you’re still on social media right now and reading this, no matter if it's your first try or you're sitting for a second or third state exam, it doesn't get any less scary or stresstul but I know you've been putting in the hours for the last 2 months so trust your preparation, trust your instincts and trust the process. This is your time to show the examiners that you know enough to be a good advocate for your client and that you're adequately prepared to take on the responsibilities of being an attorney. Be sure to get lots of sleep tonight and take a deep breath. You got this, see you at the Bar⚖️ #barexam #floridabarexam #lawschool #lawschoolgrad #lawyer

Have you heard about The Sierra Mist Lawsuit? It came up on my TikTok recently, so of course, I deep-dived, and now we need to discuss. From what I could find, it all started when PepsiCo sent travel creator Cierra Mistt a cease-and-desist letter because her name was too similar to their brand. She claims she was originally being sued for copyright infringement and was about to comply with the terms of their C&D when her lawyers allegedly discovered that PepsiCo’s trademark had expired for the Sierra Mist brand name and that she (Cierra) bought the mark, forcing them to rebrand to Starry. But let’s unpack this. There’s a lot of speculation and misinformation about what happened here, and until we get a full report, we won’t really know, but it's important to distinguish between copyright and trademark and how this makes her story a little implausible.Trademarks protect the brand's identity, and copyrights protect original creative works. So, most likely, the creator meant trademarks, the brand name, not the copyright.Additionally, while trademarks need to be monitored and renewed every five years, just because a mark expires doesn’t mean someone can buy it outright and claim ownership. Trademarks are specific to the goods and services in which your brand conducts business. So, while PepsiCo’s trademarks in Sierra Mist are for nonalcoholic soft drinks and syrups (to name a few), Cierra, as a creator, would be unable to use this mark in commerce as she would be seeking it out for use in connection with entertainment services. Most consumers wouldn’t really find a confusion here.As for Starry, it had been in the works prior to this situation in 2023 due to Sierra Mist’s failure to gain market share against competitors Sprite and 7 Up.I understand PepsiCo's position of wanting to use social media for marketing their new Starry brand and using internet slang like "Starry Hits Different" to target younger consumers.Cierra Mistt, on the other hand, is a travel creator, and her audience is probably not the same one PepsiCo is looking to reach. However, this legal battle has shed light on the importance of brand management and protection.I’m curious to see how this plays out further since it seems the creator is using it to gain notoriety and if it’ll impact Starry and PepsiCo in any way.Be sure to follow along with me, and if you’re ready to take ownership of your brand to avoid legal battles like this, book a call with me today.

Five years ago, I started on a journey that has truly transformed my career and my life. When I started my firm, I knew the importance of establishing a personal brand, thanks to my 2018 New Year's resolution to start a blog. Little did I know how impactful that one decision would be.Personal brands are becoming increasingly important in an era where everyone wants to be an entrepreneur and build their businesses using social media. Why?Trust and Authenticity: People like to buy from/work with people they trust. By consistently sharing my insights, experiences, and values, I've built a community that knows I'm here to support and guide them. They know my story and my WHY, and being transparent about the highs and the challenges has created a deep sense of trust with my audience.Relatability: I've shared not just my professional milestones but also personal anecdotes and lessons learned along the way. This approach has helped me connect with clients and colleagues on a human level, making our interactions very meaningful and real. This often sets me apart from colleagues and others in the same or adjacent industries and niches, too, and is an additional benefit of personal branding.Over the years, my personal brand has opened doors I never imagined. I've had the opportunity to work with incredible creators and agencies, speak at industry events, and even mentor aspiring lawyers. It’s often why people are called to speak with me. Maybe it's curiosity, maybe it's admiration, but it helps get my name out there! If you are on a similar path, I encourage you to embrace your unique voice and share your story. You don’t have to be as personal as I am if that's not your vibe, but find what you feel comfortable sharing AND what you can talk about for hours. I call the topics I feel comfortable sharing and can often talk about my brand/content pillars. They help me continuously develop posts and content that I feel called to share and that fit my brand.Your authenticity is your greatest asset. Building a personal brand takes time and effort, but the rewards are immeasurable. What are your favorite benefits of having a personal brand?#PersonalBrand #Trust #Relatability #Likeability #LawyerLife #CreatorEconomy #OnlineBusiness #Journey

The Bar Exam is in a few weeks… I know that’s scary and you probably wish you had more time but don’t freak out! Here are a few tips and last minute reminders to help you out on this final stretch+ Prioritize your sleep+ Get into the routine of productive study from 9-12 and 1-4 since that's when you'll be testing for the most part+ Nourish your mind and body with good healthy foods, movement and sunshine to help calm your nervous system and keep you focused+ Review the topics you've struggled to grasp the most but don't neglect your best subjects so you can perform your best on test day+ Find your mantra: mine was Confidence is aStrategy feel free to use it+ Visualize yourself passing and being sworn in!!I know you guys know this but trust that you've done the most you can and that you are adequately prepared. It's a minimum competency exam, just show the examiners you know ENOUGH to be a good advocate for your client. It's not about scoring 100% it's about showing what you know and that you know how to apply rules of law to your clients fact patterns. Visualize yourself as a lawyer, be confident in your ability to show up and be there for your clients and all the opportunities to come. Made it to 9am yoga today and I’m really proud of myself. If you’ve been here for a while you know I like to share more personal anecdotes on here to show that I am more than just a lawyer. I care about personal branding, mentorship, wellness and mental health and so much more. So I want to share a few takeaways from my yoga practice today and also how it has really changed my life in the last year. If you’re subscribed to my newsletter you’ll see todays topic is all about the right relationships and having goals and making sure both are aligned with you and who you’re becoming. This commitment to myself to slow down, be more intentional and make time for myself starts with taking care of my mind and body. So that means my routines have changed and evolved. My approach to life and business has evolved along with that. If I hadn’t started practicing yoga and met some of my closest friends in the wellness space that show me how I can prioritize a slower pace of life and still show up in business, I never would have done so and it goes to show the importance of the people you surround yourself with. Because of this evolution, I have set better boundaries, gotten clearer on who I like myself around and what serves me as I enter the next phase of my life and career. My affirmation card this morning is “I am evolving everyday,” fitting if you ask me. As we enter the second half of the year let’s all take a moment to take inventory of ourselves and see where we can make changes and how our goals have shifted. Don’t be afraid to pivot or try something new. Maybe what you were doing for so long doesn’t serve you and that’s ok. What’s something new you’re trying out lately?
