Graduation centerpiece

This simply stylish centerpiece features glass bottles in school colors, stamped tags to note the year and fresh flowers. These easy table decorations are a fun way to cap off your grad’s big day.

Tassel garland

This DIY garland is easy to make and tailor to your party venue. Simply cut tissue paper in your school’s colors into strips, twist, hang on a string and ta-dah!, you have a fun tassel garland perfect for decorating the cake table or using for photo backdrops.

Mortarboard cake

Take your graduation celebration to the next level (or grade!) with an impressive Mortarboard Cake. Despite its well-crafted appearance, you don’t have to be a graduate-level baker to make it. You may have to let some else make the first slice, though.

    FAQs

When to give a graduation card? ›

Generally-speaking, graduation announcements should be sent out at least two weeks before the event. If your grad announcements don't include a graduation party invitation, you can even send them up to six weeks after the event.

How to decorate a graduation cap without ruining it? ›

I always decorate onto a thin piece of cardboard (much like you would find on the inside of a new calendar or backing a new poster). I measure the piece of cardboard to perfectly fit the cap, and then use an Exacto knife to make sure I am cutting a button hole that fits over the button on the cap.

What is the tradition of decorating graduation caps? ›

Graduates use their decorated caps to express religion beliefs. Mortarboards also serve as sites of expressing emotions ranging from appreciation and gratitude… …to frustration. Popular culture references are very common, and graduates often use humor to playfully disrupt the formality of the occasion.

How to attach flowers to graduation cap? ›

Position the flowers on the cap where you want them. Use the hot glue gun to add glue to the bottom of a flower and press it onto the graduation cap, holding it down for 3-4 seconds to secure. Continue doing this until all the flowers are glued down and the glue is dried.

What glue to use to decorate a graduation cap? ›

I pretty much use only Tacky Glue on my caps. If it's a small piece of paper on top of paper, then I'll use a gluestick. For anything big, like faux flowers, I use hot glue.

How to make a DIY graduation cap? ›

You can construct your own graduation cap out of poster board, construction paper, and hot glue. To make the cap, fold the construction paper in half lengthwise and roll it into a cylinder; add a square-shaped piece of poster board on top. You can make a tassel using gold yarn and embroidery floss.

What should parents give as a graduation gift? ›

They'll appreciate useful gifts from parents that will help them with their professional endeavors. Whether it's tech-savvy work gear, an impressive degree frame for their office, or a professional-looking wardrobe, you're sure to find the best graduation gifts for your graduate.

    Is $75 a good graduation gift? ›

If you decide to gift cash, here are suggested amounts: Acquaintances $10 – $25. Friends $25 – $50. Close friends and family $75 – $100.

What is a traditional gift for graduation? ›

While some parents splurge on a car or computer, many choose less elaborate, but still meaningful, gifts to commemorate the day. Jewelry (often engraved with the date), books, cash or stock certificates, luggage, a camera, or graduation rings are all presents the graduate will appreciate in the years ahead.

What is the average amount to put in a graduation card? ›

    High School Graduation

For high school grads, the average gift is around $50 to $200. To decide an amount, consider if this is a close friend or family member. You may also want to talk to other people who are giving gifts to decide how much you will give to the graduate.

Is it OK to send a graduation card without money? ›

While people who receive graduation announcements may feel compelled to buy a graduation gift, that's not the case. According to McKee, receiving a graduation announcement in the mail does not mean you need to send a gift, so don't feel obligated.

Are you supposed to give flowers at graduation? ›

Acknowledge their achievement with a gift that screams “Congratulations!” Graduation is a joyous event of hope and celebration. It is marked by caps and gowns, colorful tassels, and an armful of fresh flowers for graduation that symbolize achievement and optimism.

How to style hair for graduation cap? ›

Create a small part on the left or right side of your head, then brush your hair straight back and secure a ponytail at the nape of your neck. Take a small section of hair from the bottom of your ponytail and wrap it around your hair elastic for a polished look.

How are grad caps supposed to look? ›

Arrange the cap so that the point is in front.

The mortarboard (the square piece on the crown of the cap) is meant to be worn offset in a diamond shape. The front and back of the cap will usually be indicated by the design of the headpiece—look for the slight taper in the forehead area and the elastic band in the rear.
